HOT DATE: RED SOX ALREADY HAVE 40-50 POTENTIAL SUITORS

The Red Sox are currently "the hottest property in the
history of team sports" in the U.S., according to Will
McDonough of the BOSTON GLOBE, who wrote that "approximately
40-50 individuals and groups want to make bids on the
controlling interest in the team," and "close to 50" have
already contacted the Red Sox' law firm, Boston-based
Bingham Dana & Gould. McDonough: "All of these potential
suitors have to be cleared individually by Major League
Baseball before they are given any of the team's financial
information, from which to make a bid in the future. The
Sox are guessing that about half of these will be eliminated
by MLB, leaving them with a legitimate pool of contenders of
about 25, which would be, by far, the most to attempt to buy
any team, in any sport" (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/18).
