DION AND OTHER GROUPS STILL JOCKEYING AROUND CANADIENS DEAL

Since it "appears" that the Canadiens will be sold to a
consortium and not a single company, the sale "requires a
great deal of negotiation and that is what is causing the
delays," according to Al Strachan of the TORONTO SUN, who
reported that singer Celine Dion and her husband, Rene
Angelil, whose investment group includes Cirque du Soleil,
are interested in buying the Molson Centre -- helping to
attract music acts to Montreal -- but are "not particularly
interested" in the team. Strachan reported that Molson
Breweries is "interested in retaining" a "negotiable"
percentage of its "involvement," and conglomerate Quebecor
"wants part of the team, but none of the building." The
"posted purchase price" for the building and team is C$430M,
but that could go as low as C$350M, with Molson keeping as
much as 20% of the operation (TORONTO SUN, 11/19).
