YANKEES RETAIN POWER-BROKER DAVID BOIES ... JUST IN CASE

The Yankees have retained well-known DC attorney David
Boies to "defend them if the MSG Network sues the team in
State Supreme Court over the Yankees' newest offer to sell
their television rights," according to Richard Sandomir of
the N.Y. TIMES. Boies, who led the U.S. Justice
Department's successful antitrust case against Microsoft, is
part of VP Al Gore's legal team arguing the outcome of the
FL presidential vote. MSG has until today to decide whether
to match the one-year, $52M offer made last week by IMG's
TWI to televise Yankee games next season. Since July, MSG
has filed suits against the Yankees twice, stating that the
TV rights offers "it was asked match were unfair and
violated its contractual rights." Sandomir: "The Yankees'
hiring of Boies indicates a strong belief that the latest
offer ... will also end up in court" (N.Y. TIMES, 11/16).
