REAL DEAL OR GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT? LOUISVILLE STAYS ON NBA

Louisville aldermen have again put pro sports and a new
downtown arena "on the front burner by authorizing" attorney
     J. Bruce Miller last night to negotiate with NBA teams on
the city's behalf, according to Rick McDonough of the
Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL. Two aldermen said that Miller,
who tried unsuccessfully to lure the Rockets to the city
earlier this year, "has another NBA team on the line."
Miller said "at least one and maybe two NBA franchises are
in a position to begin considering negotiations" to relocate
to Louisville. McDonough reports that the Hornets are "at
least one" team on the list. Miller dismissed talk that
the city was being used for leverage by teams: "I wouldn't
be messing with this if I didn't feel we had a legitimate
     opportunity" (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 11/15).
