NASCAR coverage, in which race action is shown throughout
commercial breaks: "If the practice gains popularity,
perhaps the split-screen effect could be expanded to sports
such as football and basketball where TV timeouts are the
norm. Baseball could cut down on the expanded time between
innings on national telecasts" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 11/14).
OTHER NOTES: In N.Y., Dan Morse writes that AL-based
Hibbett Sporting Goods and CA-based Sport Chalet have
"managed to sidestep some devastating" trends in the
sporting goods industry, and "part of that has been good
planning, part has been luck" (WALL STREET JOURNAL,
11/14)....After a taped interview with Broncos RB Terrell
Davis during "MNF," ABC's Dennis Miller said, "Thank God his
mom's priming him with that Campbells Soup. He's ready for
anything. I bet you I get a case of free soup. Just

former 49ers Joe Montana and Ronnie Lott, who are investors
in the company. Garfield calls the new spot "brilliant.
Laugh-out-loud funny, inspired and brilliant." Montana and
