ACTIVE USA SECURES NEW FINANCING; FOXSPORTS.COM MOVES?

          Active.com has secured $21M in a second round of
     financing led by ABS Ventures, the N.A. venture capital
     affil of Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown.  Active has raised
     around $52M to date and will use the new financing to expand
     its online registration capabilities across participatory
     sports events, leagues and parks and rec.  Additional
     financing came from investors Hambrecht Eu Capital, and
     PowerBar Founders Brian and Jennifer Maxwell (Active.com).
          NEWS & NOTES: The INDUSTRY STANDARD's Jennifer
     Greenstein reports on News Corp.'s Web strategy.  In mid-
     October, FoxSports.com informed 18 Web producers in N.Y.
     that their jobs were moving to L.A.  Employees "were given
     less than a week to tell the company whether they wanted to
     relocate."  As of the end of October, "only four employees
     had decided to move" (INDUSTRY STANDARD, 11/13 issue).
     ...INSIDE.com's Jon Regardie examined fantasy games on
     sports Web sites, as fantasy sports programmers are "racking
     up impressive scores, as Web technology improvements and a
     shift toward free, rather than fee-based, play have suddenly
     created a huge spike in traffic" (INSIDE.com, 11/9).
