MEDIA NOTES

          TV MONITOR: Last night's 10:00pm ET 60-minute edition
     of FSN's "National Sports Report" led with a stabbing
     incident between fans in the stands during Sunday's Raiders-
     Chargers game, followed by the Yankees' victory parade in
     N.Y.  The first report on CART's Marlboro 500 championship
     race was at 35:13 into the broadcast.  Last night's 11:00pm
     ET 30-minute edition of CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight" led with
     the Yankees parade, followed by Bob Brenly being named the
     Diamondbacks new manager.  The first report on the Marlboro
     500 was at 26:18.  Last night's 12:00am ET 60-minute edition
     of ESPN's "SportsCenter" led with Coyotes-Avalanche,
     followed by Panthers-Devils.  The first report on the
     Marlboro 500 was at 4:46 (THE DAILY).
          NOTES: In Dallas, Barry Horn reports that with Brenly
     being named D'Backs manager, "look for Joe Morgan, late of
     now-baseball-less NBC, to make a move toward the Fox
     baseball booth" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 10/31)....USA TODAY's
     Chris Jenkins reports that sportingnews.com "hired three
     pigskin guinea pigs to spend this [NFL] season crisscrossing
     the country and writing about their experiences" (USA TODAY,
     10/31)....In N.Y., Bob Raissman reports that "as things
     stand now," MSG has "shown no inclination to meet" the
     Yankees' asking price of $1.4B for a new ten-year TV rights
     deal.  If Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner starts his own
     RSN, it "could mean big dough down the line," but "any
     start-up venture comes with risk because you cannot
     immediately predict how much revenue will be generated"
     (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/31).  On Long Island, Steve Zipay, on
     the Yankees: "If the dynasty falters, it won't be for lack
     of funds" (NEWSDAY, 10/31)....In L.A., Larry Stewart writes
     that as election day nears, NFL Films "tackles the topic of
     football and politics in an excellent" two-part special for
     its weekly "NFL Films Presents" series.  Part I aired on
     Monday and will be repeated on ESPN2 twice today and again
     Friday at 4:30pm PT (L.A. TIMES, 10/31).
