NAMES IN THE NEWS

          In Atlanta, Todd Holcomb reports that GA high school
     senior ROBBY GINEPRI, regarded as the "top amateur American"
     tennis prospect for the ATP, is "prepared to sign" with SFX
     Sports Group.  SFX Sports also represents Ginepri's friend,
     ANDY RODDICK (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 10/31). 
          OTHER NAMES: In Indianapolis, Stephen Beaven profiles
     Pacers President DONNIE WALSH, and writes, "While obsessive,
     monomaniacal behavior is a way of life for many NBA
     executives, Walsh is a rarity: a spiritual seeker as
     comfortable discussing the evolution of human consciousness
     as he is the salary cap.  He meditates two or three times a
     day, sitting in silence to calm his mind.  He is well-versed
     in the literature of Eastern philosophy" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR,
     10/31)....Maple Leafs RW TIE DOMI has introduced the new
     video, "What It Takes," which is produced by Tie Domi
     Enterprises.  In Toronto, Garth Woolsey writes the video has
     "fights, and more fights, naturally" (TORONTO STAR, 10/31).
     ...SI FOR WOMEN named VENUS WILLIAMS its 2000 Sportswoman of
     the Year. Williams will be featured on the November/
     December issue that hits newstands Thursday (SI For Women).
