AT&T registered AT&T Stadium as a Web site in June,
"just five days after bidding opened on naming rights for
the new Broncos stadium," according to Ann Imse of the ROCKY
MOUNTAIN NEWS, who cites sources as saying that Englewood-
based AT&T Broadband is "close to a deal" to buy those
naming rights. AT&T spokesperson Burke Stinson said AT&T
acquired the domain name attstadium.com as an "option for us
to explore, or drop, as the finances become clear." Stinson
added that the AT&T "wanted to prevent someone else" from
acquiring the domain name and later "demanding a high price
for it." More Stinson, on the bidding for naming rights:
"In your neck of the woods, you have the headquarters of
AT&T Broadband, which is not well-known, although AT&T is a
well-known name. There is potential there to raise the
profile" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 10/31).
JUST SAY NO: In Denver, Cindy Brovsky writes that the
Metropolitan Football Stadium District "will not call for an
election on whether to retain" the Mile High name on the new
Broncos stadium (DENVER POST, 10/31).
