MILLER PARK: In Milwaukee, Crocker Stephenson wrote that
thousands of people "came out" to Miller Park on Saturday
where they "were given felt-tip markers and invited to sign
their names to a huge piece of steel soon to be added" to the
ballpark. The piece will be "placed at the apex of one of
the support arches curving" 50 feet above the surface of the
ballpark's roof (JOURNAL SENTINEL, 10/29). In other news,
two weeks into the Miller Park accident trial, Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries of America "appears to be getting hammered,"
as it "has been accused by witnesses of operating a sloppy,
seat-of-the-pants roof construction operation" on the
ballpark (JOURNAL SENTINEL, 10/30).
NOTES: In Boston, George Kimball wrote on the
construction of CMGI Field: "The bowl which will form the
playing field has already assumed a recognizable shape,"
while construction of the foundation is 80% complete.
Patriots COO Andy Wasynczuk: "I think the pace of work is
surprising people" (BOSTON HERALD, 10/28)....The Bonham Group
Chair Dean Bonham said that an $85-100M naming rights deal at
Lambeau Field is "achievable," but a $120M deal is a
"stretch." Bonham: "You're basically talking about changing
one of the most revered names in the world of sports. I'm
not sure how well that's going to be received from corporate
America's perspective, and from the perspective of sports
fans" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 10/29).
