NEWS DIGITAL LAYS OFF WORK FORCE, IMPACTING FOXSPORTS.COM

          News Digital Media, the online division of News Corp.,
     has laid off nearly 15% of its news staff, according to
     REUTERS.  News Digital Media spokesperson Melissa Schumer
     said that 12 of the more than 80 news editorial staff
     positions were eliminated.  Schumer also said that 20 or 21
     staff members of FoxSports.com were told by FoxSports.com
     Senior VP Danny Greenberg "that they must relocate" to a
     30,000-square-foot L.A.-based facility opening next week, or
     they would "lose their jobs" (REUTERS, 10/20).
