IN HOUSTON, A STADIUM RELIANT ON A NAMING RIGHTS PACKAGE

Houston-based Reliant Energy has officially acquired
naming rights to the city's new NFL stadium as well as the
location formerly known as the Astrodome complex in a $300M,
32-year deal, according to Eric Berger of the HOUSTON
CHRONICLE. Reliant will rename the entire complex Reliant
Park, while the Astrodome will be called the Reliant
Astrodome, and the stadium, which will be home to the NFL
Texans starting in 2002, will be called Reliant Stadium.
Berger writes that the agreement is "the most expensive
naming rights deal ever," surpassing the deals for FedEx
Field in Washington, DC, and Philips Arena in Atlanta. The
Texans will receive around 75% of the of the nearly $10M
annual payment, with the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo
receiving 15%, and Harris County 10% (HOUSTON CHRONICLE,
10/27). Reliant said the five facilities in Reliant Park
will have an estimated 350 event days per year (Reliant).
