REE-BACK? NFL, REEBOK DISCUSSES EXCLUSIVE DEAL, EQUITY STAKE

Reebok Int'l is "in talks with the NFL over a
blockbuster apparel rights deal," according to Richard
Wilner of the N.Y. POST, who cites sources as saying that
the talks "center on a possible exclusive apparel license"
for the Reebok brand, "including all authentic game
uniforms, sideline apparel and replica jerseys." While the
NFL and Reebok would not comment, "whispers surrounding the
negotiations" say that the two sides are "also swapping
proposals about the NFL getting stock or stock options" in
the company, which would mark the first time the league
would get equity in a licensee. The NFL's current apparel
licensing deals, with Nike, Puma and adidas, expire at the
end of this season, meaning a Reebok deal would begin with
     the 2001 season (N.Y. POST, 10/25).
