SUPER BOWL SHUFFLE: NFL VP/Special Events Jim Steeg
said the city of Jacksonville is "thinking about using up to
10 cruise ships to be able to handle everybody" likely to
visit the port city, should Jacksonville win the right to
host Super Bowl XL in 2005. Steeg, on his four-hour visit
with city and Disney officials aboard a cruise ship docked
off the FL coast last week: "We wanted to get an idea what
it would look like, what the capacity would be. It was
certainly unique and different." USA TODAY's Gordon Forbes
writes that Steeg "figures about" 8,000 corporate fans and
network officials "would be housed on docked cruise ships"
(USA TODAY, 10/25)....In Houston, Steve Brewer writes that
the Harris County Commissioners Court "unanimously approved
a resolution" by Commissioner El Franco Lee that "pledges
any county services needed" to the NFL when the city hosts
Super Bowl XXXIX in 2004. Lee said that estimates put the
value of those services at about $200,000 for security,
traffic control and other items (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/25).
