Seasonticket.com, coming off of its rights deal with
MLB earlier this year (see THE DAILY, 5/8), is "financially
strapped" and "on the block," according to Terry Lefton of
BRANDWEEK. One potential buyer is CA-based Broadband
Sports, another group "feeling financial pressure." A
combined entity "might be more attractive" to yet another
potential buyer since it would be able to "offer Web rights
to the Broadband-owned Athletes Direct's 300-plus players,
and Season Ticket's rights deals with MLB, the NHL and MLS."
But the rights "won't automatically transfer if a sale"
takes place. Meanwhile, Broadband Sports has a deal
"pending" with the NBA under which it would pay the league
$1M for the right to show five minutes of daily NBA game
highlights (BRANDWEEK, 10/23 issue).
COM-ING AROUND: INTERNET WORLD's Kathleen Murphy writes
that sports fantasy site Sandbox.com "expects to have a
positive cashflow in the near future." Sandbox.com
President & CEO Larry Cotter said that revenues are $5M per
quarter, including revenue generated from direct marketing,
banner ads and e-mail marketing to over one million
sandbox.com members (INTERNET WORLD, 10/15 issue).
