COLLEGE TEAMS STRIKE 'UNIQUE' AND 'HISTORIC' TV DEALS

The Univ. of Denver (DU) has signed a ten-year contract
with AT&T Broadband, making the men's hockey team "one of
the most televised college programs" in CO, according to
Mike Chambers of the DENVER POST. Under the deal, "nearly
every DU home hockey game" will be televised on AT&T's
Channel 21, with road games to be added "as the relationship
     between DU's in-house production department and AT&T
producers" develops. As part of the deal, 1,400 DU sports
commercials will air on "various AT&T Cable Services
channels" each year, for a total of 14,000 commercials.
AT&T exec Sarah Duisic said that AT&T agreed to pay the
university "an undisclosed sum of cash," with AT&T receiving
"substantial sponsorship" at the school. DU Vice Chancellor
for Intellectual Properties & Events John Coombe said that
the university will pay the customary FCC lease rate, adding
that three-and-a-half hours of air time will cost the school
     about $1,500 (DENVER POST, 10/24).
ALL HUSKIES ALL THE TIME: The Univ. of CT women's
basketball team will be "the most televised women's
basketball team in history" for the 2000-01 season. CT
Public Television will broadcast an "unprecedented 21
games." Along with six national telecasts, the team will
have all of their games televised (HARTFORD COURANT, 10/25).
