SUBWAY SERIES MEANS BOFFO $$ FOR YANKEE, SHEA STADIUMS

Shea Stadium concessionaires are "expecting a $2
million payday per" Subway Series game held at the facility,
"grossing an average of nearly $40 per seat" in food,
beverages and souvenirs, according to William Sherman of the
N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Additionally, at $14 each, the 7,500
parking spots at Shea will "bring in $105,000 -- double the
regular season rate, just like at Yankee Stadium." But
Sherman notes that "it'll be tough for Mets merchants to
beat out the Yanks on sales," as on Sunday night for Game
Two at Yankee Stadium "all souvenir items, and nearly all
food and drink, were sold out by the end of the sixth
inning." Yankee Stadium Dir of Hospitality Joel White: "Our
concession sales for the first two games were the biggest in
the history of the stadium" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/24).
THE MERCH POLICE: Also in N.Y., Michael O'Keeffe writes
that MLB and N.Y. police have "cracked down on street
peddlers" selling "bootleg Subway Series" merchandise, as
"more than two dozen federal marshals, lawyers and cops,
armed with civil seizure orders" obtained by MLBP, "issued
111 complaints and seized 1,200" items from peddlers.
Additionally, about 80 people were "issued summonses or
arrested near" Yankee Stadium at Games One and Two. But
O'Keeffe adds that officials "acknowledge that their efforts
won't make much of a dent in the overall sales of
     bootleggers" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/24).
CAN IT: MLB and Mets sponsor PepsiCo is rolling out
limited edition Subway Series Pepsi cans in the N.Y. area.
About two million cans will hit stores today. The company
will also distribute rally towels at Game Four of the Series
at Shea and have signage on N.Y. buses as part of MLB's
     "Pledge Your Allegiance" campaign (PepsiCo).
