ESPN, GLOBOSAT, AND FOX SPORTS PARTNER TO FORM NET IN BRAZIL

ESPN, Globosat Programadora and Fox Sports Int'l have
joined to create a new 24-hour sports network in Brazil.
Effective early next year, ESPN's existing pan-regional
network will be re-branded ESPN Fox Sports, and will reach
2.7 million TV homes in Brazil via Globosat's terrestrial
and digital satellite operations. Each of the three cable
partners will have equal ownership in ESPN Fox Sports in
return for their contribution of int'l sports rights,
production, distribution, capital and other operational
resources. ESPN Fox Sports will feature NBA, MLB, NHL and
PGA Tour events from the U.S., and also show sports events
from Europe, South America, and Australia. ESPN Fox Sports
will be based in Rio at Globosat's broadcast facilities.
This marks the second partnership between ESPN and a Fox
Sports entity, as ESPN entered into a joint venture with
STAR TV in Asia called ESPN STAR Sports in '96 (ESPN Int'l).
