NFL: In Phoenix, Paola Boivin, on the NFL taking a
neutral stance on the NRA running ads on some teams' radio
broadcasts: "Isn't the league being a bit hypocritical
considering it forbids associations with casinos because of
issues of integrity" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 10/19)....In
Cleveland, Roger Brown reported the one local candy store is
so "anxious ... to get rid of" the "Zeus Bar" -- a
chocolate-covered pretzel named after recently released
Browns OL Orlando Brown -- that it is "now selling the bar
at a 'buy one, get one free' rate" (PLAIN DEALER, 10/18).
AD MONITOR: One ad HotJobs.com will run on CBS'
broadcast of Super Bowl XXXV, via Weiss Stagliano Partners,
is titled "Swim" and "shows the story of the one heroic
sperm that reaches the egg." The ad's message: "The
attitude that got you here can get you anywhere" (AD AGE,
10/16 issue)....In Portland, ME, Eric Conrad profiled the
ME-based ad agency of Geoff Schaefer and Chris Russell,
which has handled ads for the AHL Pirates. Conrad called
the team's radio ads as "distinctive" as its slogan, "Eat.
Sleep. Hockey." In one spot, a narrator is "inside the head
of a nervous player, just called up to the Pirates, as he
wonders to himself if he can make it" in the AHL. A listener
is "treated to a 30-second sports drama on the car radio,
with a surprise ending to boot" (PRESS-HERALD, 10/18).
