WHO LET THE SEA DOGS OUT? NOT FORMER TV EXEC DANIEL BURKE

Former Capital Cities CEO Daniel Burke's investment in
the Double A Portland Sea Dogs is profiled by Dyan Machan of
FORBES. Burke paid $3.5M for the right to establish the
team when the Eastern League expanded in '94, and this past
season, the Sea Dogs sold 377,000 tickets and sold out their
6,800-seat ballpark "for half the home games." The team
grosses "nearly" $4M per year from gate, concessions,
signage, souvenirs and a "small amount" from TV and radio.
Should Burke decide to sell, "there is the prospect" for
more of a capital gain, as the Eastern League Rock Cats sold
last year for $6.5M (FORBES, 10/30 issue).
