MUCHO DINERO: REAL MADRID RESCUED FROM RED BY SPANISH BANK

Spanish soccer team Real Madrid "secured their short-
term future" by announcing a merchandising deal with Spanish
bank Caja Madrid worth US$66.7M, according to the LONDON
TIMES. Under the deal, Caja Madrid and the club will
"exploit" the team's Internet rights, as well the image
rights to the club and its players for the next 11 years.
Real Madrid will keep 80% of the proceeds, with Caja taking
the remainder. Team President Florentino Perez said that
the proceeds from the deal "would make up the club's deficit
in the budget" for the 2000-01 season (LON. TIMES, 10/18).
