CAN WE ALL JUST MOVE ALONG: MAYOR HOPEFUL ABOUT NEW BALLPARK

N.Y. Mayor Rudy Giuliani said that he hopes the city
"could complete negotiations for construction of a new
Ebbets Field-style" ballpark for the Mets next to Shea
Stadium, according to Thomas Lueck of the N.Y. TIMES.
Giuliani said that he had discussed the plan with team execs
to replace Shea, and added, "I think they know the
parameters of what the city can do, and where the city needs
help." Giuliani has proposed a "three-way split" to finance
a new facility between the city, the state and the Mets.
Giuliani: "Hopefully, as soon as the season is over, we'll
be able to get that arranged and work out a new ballpark for
the Mets" (N.Y. TIMES, 10/18). Also in N.Y., Frank Lombardi
writes that the state "has yet to agree" to Giuliani's
ballpark funding plan. Giuliani adds that the Mets' first
World Series berth in 14 years "bolstered" the chances of
reaching a ballpark deal soon (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/18).
