MEDIA NOTES

          TV MONITOR: All three national nightly sports news
     shows last night led with Heat C Alonzo Mourning announcing
     he will miss the season due to a kidney condition.  The
     10:00pm ET 60-minute edition of FSN's "National Sports
     Report" followed Mourning with a preview of the Mariners-
     Yankees ALCS Game Six.  "NSR" had 6:43 of total MLB
     coverage.  Last night's 11:00pm ET 30-minute edition of
     CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight" followed Mourning with an injury
     update on Bills QB Rob Johnson.  "Sports Tonight" had 2:46
     of total MLB coverage.  Last night's 12:00am ET 60-minute
     edition of ESPN's "SportsCenter" followed Mourning with
     coverage of the Cardinals-Mets NLCS Game Five. 
     "SportsCenter" had 9:22 of total MLB coverage (THE DAILY).  
          NOTES: MA-based Woolf Associates signed rep deals with
     ESPN Radio anchor Wayne Soares and NESN "Sportsdesk" anchor
     Wendi Nix.  Woolf Senior Dir of Athlete Marketing & General
     Counsel Kim Zayotti will handle both clients (Woolf)....FSN
     Pittsburgh averaged a 3.4 rating for Pirates games this
     season, down 24% from last year's 4.5 (PITTSBURGH POST-
     GAZETTE, 10/16)....In Tacoma, Don Ruiz reported that 28
     Canucks games will be broadcast into the Puget Sound area on
     KBCB.  Additionally, the Canucks will advertise in the WCHL
     Sabercats' game program and on Sabercats radio broadcasts.
     Sabercats GM Frank Colarusso, on the Canucks presence in the
     market: "They're far enough away where it wouldn't take away
     ticket buyers from here in the marketplace (Tacoma NEWS-
     TRIBUNE, 10/16)....Fox Sports is "utilizing a special
     graphing program" from UT-based software company Corda
     Technologies for FoxSports.com.  Corda's "PopChart" program
     "instantly assembles statistics on anything from sports
     events to company sales data and visualizes them" with
     graphs or charts on a Web page.  Corda President & CEO Neal
     Williams: "We have talked to ESPN, CBS Sportsline, CNN/SI,
     and they have all expressed a lot of interest.  We fully
     expect to have a half-dozen major Internet sites using our
     system by next year" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 10/16).
