WAS HOME DEPOT ABLE TO KEEP PACE W/GIBBS-OWNED PONTIAC DEAL?

          Home Depot has "agreed to a new three-year contract" to
     continue as primary sponsor of the Joe Gibbs-owned No. 20
     Winston Cup Pontiac and driver Tony Stewart, according to
     Mike Mulhern of the WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL.  While terms of
     the deal were not disclosed, Mulhern wrote that Gibbs was
     "pushing" Home Depot "hard to dramatically increase its
     sponsorship from this year's estimated" $5M per season to
     about $12M per year, "to keep pace with [the] UPS, Pfizer
     and Dupont sponsorships" (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL, 10/14).
          MORE TEAM NEWS: Penske-Kranefuss Racing's No. 12 Ford
     with driver Jeremy Mayfield featured the official MLB World
     Series logo at Sunday's Winston Cup race at Talladega and
     will also sport the logo for Sunday's race at NC Speedway in
     Rockingham.  Additionally, Mayfield's car will feature logos
     for the MLB Authentic Collection, as well as the AL and NL. 
     Action Performance will develop a line of die-casts around
     the World Series car (MLB)....In Dallas, Tony Fabrizio
     reported that the Dick Simon-owned IRL car has renewed its
     primary sponsorship deal with aircraft insulation
     manufacturer Mexmil for three more years.  Additionally,
     Simon said that he "hopes to run a second car next year and
     that Mexmil is working with Boeing and Northwest Airlines on
     a possible sponsorship" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 10/14).
          PRIME REAL ESTATE: Real estate company Re/Max Int'l has
     signed a three-year deal to replace Bondo/Mar-Hyde as title
     sponsor of the ARCA racing series (AP, 10/14).
