          TOP FEMALE EXECS: The SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL presents
     its third annual "TOP 25 FEMALE SPORTS EXECUTIVES OF THE
     YEAR" in this week's issue and names Univ. of MD Dir of
     Athletics DEBORAH YOW as its Exec of the Year for 2000. 
     Rounding out the top five are Brewers President & CEO WENDY
     SELIG-PRIEB, ISC Exec VP LESA FRANCE KENNEDY, ESPN Inc. exec
     CHRISTINE DRIESSEN, and Washington Sports & Entertainment
     President SUSAN O'MALLEY (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 10/16).
          THE EARLY LINE ON OSCAR'S CD: In Dallas, Mario Tarradell
     wrote that the self-titled, "ballad-heavy" debut album by
     boxer OSCAR DE LA HOYA is "safe" and "predictable."  The CD
     "never simmers -- much less boils -- long enough to spark any
     romantic energy.  This is a tepid affair, a project driven by
     style instead of substance."  Meanwhile, De La Hoya's pipes
     "have no range" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 10/15).
          OTHER NAMES: The murder trial of former Panthers WR RAE
     CARRUTH, which begins next Monday, will be televised live  on
     COURT TV (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 10/14)....For every victory
     earned by Avalanche G PATRICK ROY through February 1, Roy
     will join with the Avalanche, the NHL, NHLPA and equipment
     supplier, KOHO, in a donation program that will benefit CO
     CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL.  With each win, Roy, who tied former
     NHLer TERRY SAWCHUK for all-time victories by an NHL G this
     weekend with 447, will make a dollar donation equal to his
     career total.  His partners will each match Roy's total
     donation, and the final amount will be presented to the
     hospital during All-Star Weekend in Denver (NHL).
     ...Australia Gold medal winning swimmer IAN THORPE was in the
     audience for NBC's "Tonight Show" on Friday and was asked to
     join JAY LENO on stage where he remained for the rest of the
     show.  It was Thorpe's 18th birthday (NBC, 10/13)....The
     Titans PR staff will be presented with the PETE ROZELLE AWARD
     in a ceremony before tonight's Jaguars-Titans game.  The
     staff won the award for the '99 season in the annual vote of
     the Pro Football Writers of America, who single out a staff
     as the "most helpful" in the league (TENNESSEAN, 10/14).
