THE GARDEN GROWS: MSG INKS PANASONIC, RE-UPS WITH OTHERS

MSG Exec VP/Ad Sales Joe Gangone said that "he signed
Panasonic to a multimillion-dollar deal that includes the
company becoming the official electronics supplier" to MSG
for the Knicks and Rangers, according to Jon Lafayette of
ELECTRONIC MEDIA. Under the deal, "some of" Panasonic's
equipment will be used by the teams, and, "of course,
Panasonic will run a schedule" of ads during games. But
Gangone added Panasonic is "going to be more heavy (on)
signage and promotion." Lafayette notes that the promos
have "yet to be finalized," but the deal gives Panasonic the
rights to the teams' marks in marketing efforts. Meanwhile,
IBM and MCS Cannon have recently renewed MSG marketing
deals, Atlanta-based Delta Airlines signed a "bigger deal
than last year," and Nextel is "another new sponsor." Most
of the deals "involve multiple facets with several different
assets of Cablevision" (ELECTRONIC MEDIA, 10/9 issue).
