FINAL CHAPTER? CHIPSHOT.COM FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY PROTECTION

          CA-based Chipshot.com has filed for Chapter 11
bankruptcy-court protection, "marking the possible end of
the online golf-equipment retailer's struggle to stay
afloat," according to Sharon Cleary of the WALL STREET
JOURNAL INTERACTIVE, who writes that "nearly all" of the
company's employees have "been let go." Cleary notes that
in June, Chipshot.com "closed its fourth and most-recent
round" of venture-capital funding at $24.5M. The company
then "quickly realized it was burning through cash and
returned to its investors for additional funds -- with
little luck." Chipshot.com's investors include Sequoia
Capital and Oracle Venture Fund. Sequoia partner Tom
     Stephenson is Chipshot.com Chair (WSJ.com, 10/12).
