2003 PAN AM GAMES NOT EXPECTED TO BE MOVED TO SAN ANTONIO

USOC Dir of PR Mike Moran said that the 2003 Pan
American Games would "absolutely not be moved to San Antonio
due to financial difficulties in the Dominican Republic,"
according to Jennifer Bellis of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-
NEWS. Moran: "We feel really strong about San Antonio in
2007. It is not fair to present it to a city so quickly
with all the money that is involved." Bellis reports that
"money is the main issue" with the Dominican Republic's plan
to host the event in '03. Pan Am officials are "debating
the issue" of putting the country into debt for the Games
and legislators are "questioning the wisdom" of borrowing
money to pay for "Games-related expenses." Pan American
Sports Organization reps will meet next week in Colorado
     Springs (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 10/12).
