Fraley: "The monarchies are not faring well against other
operations that follow the 'Owners own; general managers
manage; coaches coach' philosophy" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS,
10/8)....Knicks Exec VP Steve Mills, on the team being
criticized by the NAACP for holding training camp in
Charleston, SC, despite the presence of the Confederate
flag: "We felt like a compromise had been reached [on the
flag issue]. As in most compromises, no one was completely
satisfied but we felt comfortable in our decision to come
back" (N.Y. POST, 10/8)....In New Orleans, Brian Allee-Walsh
wrote that former Saints coach Mike Ditka "disclosed" that

years and $7.5M remaining when he was fired in January.
Benson's attorney Stanley Rosenberg said that Ditka "is
violating their contract and no payments will be forthcoming
until he abides by its terms" (TIMES-PICAYUNE, 10/8).
