WHILE MITCHELL JOINS MARLINS, BALLPARK MAY NOT BE MAIN FOCUS

Former U.S. Senator George Mitchell "insisted" he was
appointed to the Marlins BOD "only 'as an advisor and
counselor'" to the team, according to Phillips & Skolnick of
the MIAMI HERALD. Mitchell: "There may be a mistake that
I'm here to head up the effort to get a ballpark." Phillips
& Skolnick write that the ballpark effort is being led by
Marlins Vice Chair David Ginsberg. Mitchell said yesterday
that the "real responsibility" in the pursuit of a new
publicly funded ballpark falls on FL Gov. Jeb Bush's nine-
person Community Improvement Authority, which was authorized
in June. Marlins Owner John Henry "plans to add two more
members" to the three-person BOD, which consists of himself,
Ginsberg and Mitchell. Phillips & Skolnick: "Mitchell's
presence could be instrumental. People involved in this
process the past few months have found Henry to be pleasant,
honorable and well-intentioned. Yet several have also
described [him] as overmatched politically, short on the
connections that benefitted Panthers owner Wayne Huizenga
and Heat owner Micky Arison" (MIAMI HERALD, 9/29).
