START SPREADING THE NEWS: GIULIANI PROPOSES FINANCING PLAN

N.Y. Mayor Rudy Giuliani "proposed a financing formula"
in which the Yankees and Mets "would pay one-third of the
costs of new stadiums" and the city and state would divide
the remaining costs "down the middle," according to Thomas
Lueck of the N.Y. TIMES. Giuliani: "The city has the money
to do it" (N.Y. TIMES, 9/29). Mets co-Owner Fred Wilpon
confirmed that the three-way funding proposal "has been on
the table." Wilpon added that the organization was "still
considering several options" for a new Mets home (N.Y. DAILY
NEWS, 9/29). Meanwhile, NEWSDAY's Jon Heyman reports that
comments made by Mets co-Owner Nelson Doubleday about
renovating Shea Stadium "confounded club executives."
Heyman: "Until Doubleday spoke, we thought everyone knew
that Shea is unworkable, unlivable and untenable as a
baseball stadium this century" (NEWSDAY, 9/29).
