PLAYING THROUGH: NIKE FINDS WAY TO USE TIGER DESPITE STRIKE

With the SAG/AFTRA strike against advertisers now in
its 20th week, Nike and Tiger Woods "have reportedly come up
with a solution for advertising in the immediate future,"
according to GOLF WORLD. Nike "plans to develop a series"
of ads using existing tournament footage from Woods' 2000
season in order for Woods to avoid the "dilemma of having to
choose" between filming ads for Nike or crossing the
SAG/AFTRA picket line (GOLF WORLD, 9/29 issue). The WALL
STREET JOURNAL's Eduardo Porter reports that talks between
actors and advertisers "broke down yesterday, ...
threatening to escalate a confrontation that has disrupted
commercial production" in the U.S. Actors have been
picketing GM facilities for more than a month, after the
company "defied the strike" by producing an ad featuring
Woods, which is airing during the Olympics (WSJ, 9/28).
