NBCOLYMPICS HAS MORE THAN THREE MILLION USERS DURING GAMES

Olympic-related Web traffic is "gathering steam,"
according to USA TODAY's Mike Snider, who reports that
traffic on NBCOlympics.com and olympics.com has "increased
greatly." PC Data reports that NBCOlympics.com "led the way
with nearly 3.1 million surfers in the USA who visited one
or more times during the week." Meanwhile, IBM's
     olympics.com had 2.2 million visitors. Worldwide, IBM's
site "still gets the most traffic, attracting more than 5.2
million visitors." A total of about 8.2 million U.S. users
visited Olympic sites last week. PC Data analyst Cameron
Meierhoefer said that the total is "not too shabby, compared
with a daily TV audience that has been averaging between 21
million and 27 million" (USA TODAY, 9/26). See (#33).
USERS' CRITICS CORNER? The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Thomas
Weber notes Olympic chat rooms "are open 24 hours a day, and
so far the banter has been head and shoulders above the
usual 'Wasssup? Anybody there?' drivel found on the Web."
On NBCOlympics.com, users "have been zealously dissecting TV
coverage complaining, among other things, about NBC's short
shrift given to the trampoline" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 9/26).
