FRANCHISE NOTES

NFL: In Oakland, Art Spander called the announced
attendance of 45,702 for Sunday's Browns-Raiders game at
Network Associates Coliseum "pitiful." The crowd was a
"dropoff of some" 17,000 from the previous week. Spander,
on the decline: "A reason to wonder, indeed, when are they
[Raiders] moving back to L.A.?" (OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 9/25).
...In Akron, Terry Pluto: "The Cavs say the [Shawn] Kemp
trading [to the Trail Blazers] created no backlash in terms
of ticket sales. We hear that the Kemp deal of three years
ago led to a bump in sales, but since then, Kemp really
hasn't helped sell tickets" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 9/25).
