TiVo and the PGA Tour have partnered to feature select
Tour programming, event information and merchandise on the
TiVo Service. Under the deal, the Tour will create 30
minutes of entertainment and promotional video content to be
loaded onto TiVo boxes prior to retail distribution. Also,
the Tour will launch a Web site to provide additional
information on the products featured on TiVo (PGA Tour).
DAILY VARIETY's Scott Hettrick wrote that the viewers will
"have the option to watch the PGA Tour programming when they
hook up the machine." The Tour will "share a portion" of
the revenue generated with TiVo (DAILY VARIETY, 9/19).
MATCH PLAY: PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem discussed
Charles Schwab's enhanced sponsorship of the Senior Tour
(see THE DAILY, 9/1). Finchem: "This will focus on a new
audience that will allow us to move in a new direction.
This will help us tie the Senior Tour to the business
community." Schwab Chair Charles Schwab said, "We have 7
million customers. They're 33 to 55 years old, and 20% of
them play golf." USA TODAY's Jerry Potter notes that Senior
Tour sponsor Cadillac will return as a sponsor next year,
but only for 15 of the 38 events (USA TODAY, 9/20).
