NFLPA TO TAKE OVER FOX'S ROLE AS PARTNER IN NFL EUROPE

The NFLPA has "agreed to increase its participation" in
NFL Europe through increasing its "defined gross revenue
credits" under the current CBA with the NFL, according to
USA TODAY's Gordon Forbes. Under a plan, the NFLPA will
increase its credits from $5M to $15M in 2001 and '02, then
to $20M in '03. Forbes: "In effect, the NFLPA will absorb
under the league's salary cap NFL Europe costs of $9.45
million, based on 63% of defined gross revenues." The move
follows Fox' withdrawal as a 50% partner in NFL Europe (see
THE DAILY, 9/1). Forbes adds that each NFL team "will be
asked to contribute" $300,000 toward NFL Europe operational
costs next year. Giants co-Owner & NFL Finance Committee
member Bob Tisch, on whether there will ever be an NFL team
overseas: "I don't think so. I just think it will take a
long, long time for it to go over" (USA TODAY, 9/20).
