          The expansion NHL Wild sold out their regular-season
     home opener October 11 against the Flyers in two minutes
     Saturday.  Wild VP/Communications & Broadcasting Bill
     Robertson said that about 40,000 total single-game tickets
     were sold (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 9/17).  A limited number
     of tickets "are still available" for the remaining 40 home
     games (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 9/17)....In Charlotte, David Scott
     reported on Winston-Salem's "plans to privately" fund a
     22,500-seat soccer-specific stadium in a bid to land an MLS
     franchise.  About $100,000 has been raised from community
     contributions "to continue the effort" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER,
     9/16)....In St. Paul, Charley Walters wrote that Vikings
     Owner Red McCombs "passed on first rights" to purchase an
     AFL team for the Target Center this spring, so "look for a
     local group to complete" a $5M purchase soon (ST. PAUL
     PIONEER PRESS, 9/17)....Due to Hurricane Gordon, the crowd
     of 45,653 for yesterday's Bengals-Jaguars game at Alltel
     Stadium "was the smallest" in Jaguars history (ORLANDO
     SENTINEL, 9/18)....Fox's Jimmy Kimmel, on the NFL expansion
     franchise in Houston being named the Texans: "When I hear
     Texans, I think of people being electrocuted and ZZ Top"
     ("Fox NFL Sunday," Fox, 9/17).
