FRANCHISE NOTES

In his "Pro Football Insider," Fred Edelstein reported
that NFL owners and execs "are very pessimistic" about the
Cardinals stadium referendum passing in November, and said
add "there is no way" that Cardinals Owner Bill Bidwill
could get approval to move to L.A. after his stints in
St.Louis and Phoenix ("Pro Football Insider," 9/14)....In
San Diego, Jim Trotter wrote that the Chargers have sold
only 36,200 season tickets, which includes suites and club
seats as well as four-game minipackages. The last time the
season ticket base fell below 37,000 was '92, when it was
     36,040 (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 9/14)....After 24
     consecutive regular-season games without a sell-out, the
Raiders TV blackout will be lifted for this Sunday's game
against the Broncos. Microsoft's WebTV bought the 1,000
tickets to lift the blackout (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 9/15).
LUMBERJACKS SOLD FOR $4M: The IHL Lumberjacks will be
purchased by Cleveland business exec Hank Kassigkeit. The
team was formerly owned by Larry Gordon for 16-years
(Lumberjacks). In Cleveland, George Sweda reports that
Kassigkeit paid a reported $4M for the team and plans to
change the team's name and logo (PLAIN DEALER, 9/16).
NOTES: In Indianapolis, Stephen Beaven writes that AFL
Albany Firebirds Owner Glen Mazula was in Indianapolis
"recently to tour Conseco Fieldhouse." Beaven reports that
Mazula characterized the trip as a "fact-finding mission."
Mazula: "I'm looking at options if I were to move or if I
were to sell the team" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 9/15).
