NEW MEASURING METHOD MAY BE BOOST TO YAHOO! SPORTS NUMBERS

Yahoo.com could soon "replace ESPN.com as the most
popular sports site on the Web," according to USA TODAY's
Chris Jenkins. A spokesperson for Media Metrix, which tracks
Web traffic, said that the company "will begin counting"
yahoo.com's sports coverage as "a separate sports site," as
is done with other sports sites. Yahoo! officials believe
that once their site is added to Media Metrix's rankings,
"it will have more monthly users than espn.com." ESPN
Internet Ventures Senior VP Geoff Reiss said that he
"doesn't doubt yahoo.com's sports traffic is significant and
could be boosted further" by a new content-sharing deal with
the NBA. But Reiss said that espn.com has more "loyal
     users" (USA TODAY, 9/13).
