PRIVATE EYES: NORTHWEST SPORTS ENTERPRISES PONDERS MOVE

Canucks Owner Northwest Sports Enterprises (NSE) "is
proposing to go private by offering" C$14 per share to about
1,000 minority shareholders who hold 2.8% of the shares that
last traded for C$35, according to John Schreiner of the
FINANCIAL POST. The "justification" for the offered price
is a valuation by PricewaterhouseCoopers that says the
Canucks "are worth less than the cash" that team Owner John
McCaw "has sunk into the team to keep it afloat over the
past five years." NSE is 86.5% owned by Orca Bay Holdings
and Vancouver-based Primex Investments (PI) owns 10.7% of
NSE. The current C$14 per share offer "does not extend" to
PI (FIN. POST, 9/13). In Vancouver, David Baines writes
that if all 1,000 shareholders tender their shares, McCaw
will have to pay a total of C$392,000 (VAN. SUN, 9/13).
