AL DAVIS CONTINUES TO CALL FOR POLICY, BOWLEN EXPULSION

Raiders Owner Al Davis "wants" Browns President Carmen
Policy and Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen "expelled from" the NFL
"for at least a year for alleged violations" of the league's
salary cap, according to USA TODAY's Gordon Forbes. Earlier
reports had both possibly being fined by the league, but
Davis said, "A fine is not satisfactory. Both Policy and
Bowlen should be expelled for a year or two and then you can
try for reinstatement. You're talking here about the
credibility of the game on the field. It's worse than
gambling." Davis named Giants co-Owner Wellington Mara,
Ravens Owner Art Modell, Bills Owner Ralph Wilson and Saints
Owner Tom Benson as being among those "demanding" that NFL
Commissioner Paul Tagliabue "bring down the hammer on the
guilty parties" (USA TODAY, 9/11). CBS' "The NFL Today"
reported Sunday that despite Policy's "recent offers to pay
a fine for salary-cap violations, league officials have told
the NFL Today that currently they are not optimistic that
there will be a settlement in the case, and expect to go to
trial before a league special master" ("NFL Today," 9/10).
