NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Padres Owner JOHN MOORES has donated $6.6M to the
     Zoological Society of San Diego, the "largest gift ever by
     an individual, to be used for conservation of endangered
     animals."  The zoo's "giant pandas are the major beneficiary
     of Moores' largess" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 8/29)....The
     Academy of TV Arts & Sciences presented the 52nd annual Emmy
     Awards in the creative arts categories on Saturday.  The
     winner for Best Commercial was NIKE's "THE MORNING AFTER"
     directed by SPIKE JONZE (THE DAILY)....The MLB Rangers will
     honor former team President TOM SCHIEFFER in a pregame
     ceremony tonight (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 8/29)....USA TODAY's
     Janet Kornblum wrote that DENNIS RODMAN will open his
     Newport Beach, CA, "party house to the world via the
     Internet on RodmanTV.com" tomorrow.   The new site will
     broadcast events such as the "Exotic Erotic Ball and
     Penthouse contests."  Rodman: "The only privacy I want is
     having sex with my girlfriend" (USA TODAY, 8/28).
