SMASH MOUTH: NLL CROSSING OVER INTO CANADA AFTER SALE

Syracuse Smash Owner Howard Dolgon has sold his
National Lacrosse League franchise to a Canadian group "led
by" shareholders of the Toronto Rock "who will move the team
to the Corel Centre in Ottawa for the 2000-01 season,"
according to Mike Koreen of the OTTAWA SUN. The Canadian
investment group is "believed to have paid" about $500,000
to acquire the Smash. Meanwhile, Koreen adds that the NLL,
which featured eight teams last year, will announce
Columbus, OH, as its ninth franchise next week. NLL
Commissioner John Livsey is "expected to leave the league
office" in to lead the team's ownership group. Meanwhile,
Pittsburgh CrosseFire Owner Dennis Townsend "likely will
sell" his team to a group that will move the franchise to
either Baltimore or Fairfax, VA (OTTAWA SUN, 8/29).
