MEDIA NOTES

          TV MONITOR: Last night's 11:00pm ET 30-minute edition
     of CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight" led with the NEC Invitational,
     followed by A's-Indians.  "Sports Tonight" had 5:41 of total
     NFL coverage and 2:14 of total NEC Invitational coverage. 
     Last night's 11:45pm ET 75-minute edition of ESPN's
     "SportsCenter" led with Red Sox-Royals, followed by A's-
     Indians.  The first non-MLB report, at 10:07 into the
     broadcast, was the NEC Invitational.  "SportsCenter" had
     17:18 of NFL coverage and 5:23 of NEC Invitational coverage. 
     Last night's 12:00am ET 60-minute edition of FSN's "National
     Sports Report" also led with Red Sox-Royals, followed by
     Rangers-Yankees.  The first non-MLB report, at 9:17, was
     also the NEC Invitational.  "NSR" had 5:48 of NFL coverage
     and 2:14 of NEC Invitational coverage (THE DAILY).       
          ALBERT TO RETURN TO MSG? In N.Y., Bob Raissman cites
     sources as saying that MSG Network execs have "already set
     the wheels in motion" to bring Marv Albert back to handle
     Knicks games on MSG with Clyde Frazier.  Mike Breen, who has
     been the Knicks' TV voice for the past three seasons, will
     "move back to the radio booth to work with analyst John
     Andariese."  Sources say that Albert, who has been the
     Knicks play-by-play radio voice for the last two seasons, is
     in "contract negotiations" with MSG (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 8/25).
          NOTES: The Pan American Sports Network (PSN) has signed
     a three-year agreement with the NBA where PSN will broadcast
     as many as 34 NBA games in Spanish and Portuguese next
     season (BLOOMBERG, 8/24)....The Hurricanes signed a two-year
     extension with WRBZ-AM to continue as the team's flagship
     station (Hurricanes)....In K.C., Jonathan Rand profiles the
     NFL's Internet strategy and cites Chiefs Manager of Internet
     Services Lance Brown as saying that the team's Web site
     "generates $300,000 yearly."  Brown: "This is a moneymaker
     now.  At first, we were thinking, 'This is a break-even
     proposition.' It was not easy to find advertisers.  But it's
     not as hard as it once was" (K.C. STAR, 8/25).
