FACILITY NOTES

In Milwaukee, Don Walker wrote that a 40,000-pound marquee featuring a "high resolution large-format video and graphic display" by Daktronics is under construction outside the facility. The video display is "intended to create a little more excitement" about the Bradley Center. Bradley Center Assistant GM Stephen Costello said that observers will be able to see updates on games "around the country" and live action of Bucks, IHL Admirals and NPSL Wave games played inside the arena (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 8/24)....In Pittsburgh, Tom Barnes writes that the Steelers have hired PA-based SMG as "labor relations manager" to handle upcoming talks with unions for ushers, grounds crews and other Three Rivers Stadium workers who "want to work at" the team's new, $284M stadium when it opens next August. One of SMG's first jobs will be to "develop staffing requirements" for the facility (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 8/25)....A group of Miami "community leaders," business reps and Univ. of Miami (FL) officials is "exploring ways to attract more events and to raise money" to pay for renovations at the Orange Bowl. The group is looking at funding options ranging from selling the building's naming rights to keeping sales taxes from concessions, merchandise and tickets (Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL, 8/21)....South Boston (VA) Speedway announced this week that "it will not host" a BGN race next season, becoming the second track on this year's schedule to say that it "will not be part" of the series in 2001. Myrtle Beach (SC) Speedway is the other track to opt out of the BGN (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 8/25).
