A HOME FOR TIMMY DUNCAN: ARENA GROUNDBREAKING FOR SPURS

          Groundbreaking was held yesterday for the $175M SBC
     Center, the new home of the Spurs and the annual Stock Show
     & Rodeo, according to Tom Bower of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-
     NEWS.  The $35,000, "well-orchestrated event featured
     skydivers" and leaders from Bexar County, the Coliseum
     Advisory Board, the Spurs and the city's Livestock
     Exposition.  Former USAA Chair Robert McDermott: "This
     cements it, I think.  I think the Spurs are here forever." 
     Spurs Chair Peter Holt: "I agree with that absolutely. That
     has always been our goal" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 8/24). 
     Holt, on the new technology for the facility: "We are going
     to wire that whole building" (SANANTONIO.com, 8/24).
