With a "little more than three weeks to go" before
Brown County residents "decide the future of Lambeau Field,"
a new poll shows the vote is close, according to Don Walker
of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. A telephone survey of
400 "likely" Brown County voters conducted last week showed
that 49% of those surveyed were in favor of a 0.5% sales tax
to cover part of the $295M cost of renovating Lambeau Field,
while 42% opposed. Meanwhile 9% of those surveyed said they
had not made up their minds or declined to answer. Walker
added that the survey results "are remarkable" in that the
two main opposition groups against the vote "have spent only
a few thousand dollars on the campaign, compared with the
hundreds of thousands of dollars spent by the Packers." Yet
opponents "remain within striking distance with only a few
weeks to go before the vote." Other results of the survey
conducted by WI-based Lein-Speigelhoff showed that 69% said
that the Packers played a "positive part" in the quality of
life, 87% said the team "boosted" civic pride, 94% said the
team helped tourism and 90% said the franchise helped the
local economy (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 8/19).
