CHAIRMAN BILL: NBA HOFer & former U.S. Senator Bill
Bradley "has been asked if he wants to be" USOC Chair,
according to Richard Sandomir of the N.Y. TIMES, who writes
that USOC CEO Norm Blake said yesterday that he spoke with
Bradley by telephone "three or four weeks ago" about the
unpaid position "at the request of" the USOC's nominating
committee. Blake: "I think he was seriously considering it,
and I was very impressed with how he conducted himself. He
wanted to be sure it wasn't a figurehead position, and wanted
a job where he could make a difference" (N.Y. TIMES, 8/17).
DALLAS 2012 BID: In Dallas, Michael Saul writes that
City Council members "informally gave their support"
yesterday to the Dallas 2012 Olympic bid committee's plan "to
play host to more than a dozen" events in Dallas should the
city be granted the Games. Dallas 2012 Chair Tom Luce told
the Council that the committee, whose bid is due by December
15, "has recommended" that 14 of the 38 venues be in Dallas
(DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 8/17). In Ft. Worth, Mary Doclar
writes that Dallas 2012 "is trying to obtain insurance that
would cover any financial losses related to the Games so they
won't have to ask voters to dedicate sales tax revenue for
that purpose" (F.W. STAR-TELEGRAM, 8/17).
