XFL Chair Vince McMahon discussed a variety of issues on
last night's edition of the "National Sports Report."
McMahon, on the XFL, scheduled to debut in February 2001:
"Fans watching the XFL will see this game as they have never
seen professional football before. You will see coaches
berating players, you will see players berating players, you
will see certain calls made in the huddle actually as it's
being done and you will see the quarterback and his point of
view and hear his passion. It's all about passion and the
players and the coaches and the passion that they have of the
game. You're going to be able to have a professional
football experience. It will be an XFL experience, you won't
be just watching a football game." McMahon, on the NFL:
"They're all about corporate boxes. You have quiche and
champagne and things of that nature. They're all about
corporate America, and I think that's not real sport. I
think that many times they've lost contact with their real
audience, which is mainstream, middle-class America, and I
think that's a shame" ("NSR," FSN, 8/16).
