1-2-3-4 PRESSURE! ANGELOS DENIES REPORT OF STRONG-ARMING

Orioles Owner Peter Angelos "pressured" accounting firm
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) "to pull out of contract
negotiations to do work" for the VA Baseball Stadium
Authority (VBSA), an organization trying to bring MLB to the
Washington, DC/Northern VA area, according to VBSA Exec Dir
Gabe Paul, who was cited by Thom Loverro of the WASHINGTON
TIMES. PwC is also working for Angelos "in his legal
battle" against the MD Stadium Authority "to change the
Orioles' lease" on Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Paul said
that when Angelos "found out" that PwC was negotiating to
conduct the VBSA study, he "told the firm to back out or
risk losing his business." Although PwC "backed out of
talks" for the VBSA study, the firm "denies it responded to
pressure" from Angelos. Paul: "It was very small of Peter
Angelos, and Pricewaterhouses' ethics leave something to be
desired. Peter Angelos stuck his nose into this, and it is
very petty what he is trying to do." Angelos did not return
Loverro's phone calls on the matter (WASH. TIMES, 8/10).
